If World of Tanks won’t start, there may be a number of reasons for this. You may therefore need to try a few solutions to resolve the issue.
World of Tanks won’t start – system requirements
If you are trying to launch World of Tanks for the first time, the first thing you should do is check whether your PC meets the necessary requirements. Also make sure that all components are present and up to date.
- Minimum requirements: You need Windows 7 (64-bit only) or a newer version of the operating system. You’ll also need an Intel Core i5-3330/AMD FX-6300 and an Nvidia GTX 460/AMD Radeon HD 8770 or faster hardware. Additionally, your PC must have 4 GB of RAM and 70 GB of available disk space.
- Windows updates: Make sure you have downloaded and installed all Windows updates.
- Graphics card drivers: Install the latest drivers for your AMD or Nvidia graphics card.
- Internet connection: Make sure you are connected to the internet and that you have a transfer speed of at least 256 Kbps. Also, make sure that no firewall is blocking the game.
- Missing rights: With some system configurations, it may happen that you do not have sufficient user rights. In this case, try to start the game as an administrator.
World of Tanks – Repairing a Corrupted Installation
If you have played World of Tanks in the past but it no longer starts, the installation may be corrupted.
- Integrity Check: Open the Wargaming Game Center. In the World of Tanks tab, click on Game Settings ☻ Check and Repair ☻ Next. Wait until the check is complete and any problems are automatically fixed.
- Reinstall: If you are experiencing serious problems, you can try to completely remove the game and reinstall it. This may also be necessary if the launcher no longer starts.
- Game client: You can download World of Tanks either via the Wargaming Game Center or Steam. If the game won’t start via one method, you can try installing it via the other method.
- Clear settings and cache: Both the game settings and the cache can cause problems: Press [Win] + [R] and run %appdata%wargaming.netWorldOfTanks. Delete the Preferences.xml file and all subdirectories. Wargaming also provides a batch file that automates the process.
- Reset graphics settings: If you have made changes to the graphics settings, you can reset them by clicking on the arrow next to the Play button in the Game Center and selecting Start game with default graphics settings.
- Safe mode: You can start World of Tanks in safe mode. Any mods that have been installed will then be ignored. To do this, click on the arrow next to the Play button in the Game Center and select Start game in safe mode.
- Remove game mods: If mods, i.e. modifications, have already been installed for World of Tanks in the past, they may now prevent the game from starting. Wargaming offers a special batch file for this purpose, which you have to copy into the game directory and execute.
- Contact support: If all else fails, you can contact Wargaming support and describe your problem.
