Ciri replaces the well-known Geralt of Rivia as the main character in The Witcher 4. The reason for this is the natural development of the story.
The Witcher 4: Ciri as successor to Geralt
The Witcher 4 was officially announced at the 2024 Game Awards. Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, better known as Ciri, takes on the leading role in the new open world RPG from the pen of CD Project Red.
- This decision was an easy one for the studio, according to story director Tomasz Marchewka. “From the very beginning, we knew it would be Ciri,” he told the online magazine Gamesradar.
- She is a ‘complex character’ who is the ideal basis for a new trilogy. In addition, she is recognized by the studio as the successor to Geralt.
- Geralt von Riva is the foster father of Ciri. In the Witcher books and Witcher 3, the father-daughter relationship plays an important role and she learns many important lessons from him.
- It is therefore not surprising that Ciri will follow in the footsteps of witcher Geralt. The decision is a natural progression of the story and the fans already know her. This makes it easier to switch to a new protagonist.
The Witcher 4: Ciri as a lynx witch
Unlike Geralt and Vesemir, Ciri does not belong to the wolf school. Based on her amulet, which can be seen in the trailer, she has instead chosen the lynx school.
- This is a school from a fan fiction by the authors Smiki55 and Witcher190. It focuses on a combination of Witcher signs and complicated magic that Ciri already uses in Witcher 3 and the books.
- The school is an evolution of the wolf and cat school. This in turn shows Ciri’s development and her connection to Geralt and the other witches in Kaer Morhen.
- Whether Ciri took the witcher exams for this, including the infamous herb test, is not known. It is necessary for the witcher to survive the powers, potions and hardships of being a monster slayer. This will probably be answered in the game.
