You can use Pokébank for free since Nintendo has discontinued eShop support for the 3DS and the WII U. There are a few points to bear in mind here.
Use Pokébank for free: Possible for 3DS owners
Using the Pokébank, you can save your Pokémon team from the Nintendo 3DS games and earlier consoles.
- The service has been available to you for free since Nintendo discontinued support for the 3DS and WII U eShop in March 2023. Accordingly, you can continue to use the Pokébank indefinitely without paying any fees.
- There is one catch: the service can only be used by users who downloaded the software onto their 3DS before the eShop shutdown. If you want to download the Pokébank after 28 March 2023, this will no longer be possible.
- Alternatively, it would be possible to hack the 3DS console via Homebrew or Custom Firmware (CFW). You can then install the Pokébank manually and use it together with your games.
- For reasons of legality, we do not give you any information about where you can obtain the corresponding software. For this purpose, a Google search is recommended.
Continue using PokéBank: Pokémon HOME Premium required
But Pokémon Bank is not completely free. For important features, you also need Pokémon HOME.
- If you want to transfer your Pokémon from the Pokébank to newer Nintendo Switch titles or Go, you need a premium subscription to Pokémon HOME.
- Through Pokémon HOME Premium, you can store your monsters from the Pokébank and thus transfer them to the higher generations. This is not possible with the Free version of the service.
- The Premium variant offers space for up to 6,000 Pokémon, twice the amount of the Pokébank. You can theoretically transfer all monsters and continue to use them.
- The price per month is 2.99 euros, for three months 4.99 euros and if you book a year directly at once 15.99 euros. So if you use the Pokébank for more than just your 3DS games, you can expect these costs.
