Sims 4: How to put your Sims on parental leave

Before the baby is born in “The Sims 4”, the soon-to-be Sims parents have the option of taking parental leave. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Click on the phone with the desired Sim:
  • Select the “Take parental leave” option in the “Business” area (yellow briefcase icon).

Your Sim will receive confirmation that they can take one day of parental leave. If your Sim is already free, they cannot apply for additional parental leave. Unemployed Sims cannot take parental leave either.

  • Parental leave can be requested from the third trimester of pregnancy. You must renew your parental leave every day if you want your Sim to continue to stay at home.
  • Even if the baby is already born, your Sim can take parental leave. This is not compulsory, but can be freely decided
  • Parental leave in “The Sims 4” applies to both the mother and the father of the child or to both parents. During this time, your Sims will continue to receive their salary as usual.
  • Tip: You can use your Sims’ parental leave to spice up the nursery with the appropriate DLC, for example.

How to end your Sims’ parental leave again

If you’re wondering how you know when parental leave ends again, we have good news for you:

  • Parental leave ends automatically after one day and must be extended regularly if necessary.
  • Once the offspring has left the baby and toddler phase behind and becomes a child, your Sims are no longer entitled to parental leave.
  • You will be informed at the top right of the screen that parental leave is ending. You do not need to do anything else. The time ends automatically and your Sims must go back to work.
