Sims 4: How to get married in the game

As in the previous games, your Sims can get married in “The Sims 4”. However, this is not so easy, because – just like in real life – you first have to win over your counterpart. In this practical tip, we will show you the best way to do this in the game.

Unlock marriage: How to do it in The Sims 4

If you want to get married in “The Sims 4”, you must first convince the other Sim of your Sim. The best way to do this is as follows:

• Click on the other Sim and select “Romantic”. Then select a desired item, e.g. “Flirt” or “Give a rose”. However, make sure that your Sims get along well. When getting to know each other for the first time, you should first focus on interactions in the “Friendly” area.
• General rule: Change the interactions often. Be funny at times, friendly at others, flirtatious at others. The mixture ensures that the other Sim doesn’t get bored.
• At some point, your Sims can move in together with the interaction “Move in”. Once this happens, you will have control over both Sims and will be able to merge them more quickly.
• Then click on “First Kiss” if your Sims are already getting along well. Usually, the Sims will let you do this shortly after the option becomes available to you.
• Your Sim should now form a firm bond with the other Sim. To do this, click on “Romantic” again and then on “Ask to be boyfriend(in)”.
• If you experience a setback, be sure to try other interactions. So if flirting doesn’t work, try a joke. To get to know each other better, the item “Ask for a date” also helps. There the Sims can get to know each other better.
• If you stay on the ball long enough, you can unlock the action “Propose marriage”. This is also under “Romantic” again.

Getting the Sims married – what you should consider

Once you have finally unlocked the interaction, however, you should not let the Sims get married straight away. Most of the time this goes wrong. Therefore, keep the following in mind:

• As with getting to know each other and flirting, your Sims should be in a good mood and feel comfortable before such an important step. If they’re not, they can quickly get turned down.

• Also, don’t propose until the Sims know each other better. So do a few other options before you press the button.
• If the marriage proposal is successful, you can plan the celebration or marry the other Sim immediately. Here you have free choice and should act on the basis of your Sims’ wishes. Particularly romantic Sims often want a big celebration.

• Once you have decided to have a big party, you should fulfil the tasks that are given to you during the party. Similar to all other parties, this is crucial for success.
• To marry a Sim at the wedding party, click on it and select “Marry Sim”. Instead of “Sim”, however, you will find the respective name there.
