The order of the Pokémon editions is chronological according to their release date. With the classic editions, there are already 39 games.
Pokémon: Order of the Editions
The Pokémon game series is based on the order of the editions. Since 1999, you have been able to prove yourself as a trainer and try to be the very best.
- Pokémon Red & Blue was released in 1999. Explore the Kanto region and discover the 151 classic Pokémon from the first generation. Defeat Team Rocket and become a Pokémon master.
- Pokémon Yellow was released just one year later and complements the first edition Red & Blue. The special feature of the yellow version is that you get a special starter Pokémon with Pikachu.
- A new gameplay appeared with Pokémon Gold & Silver in 2001. The Johto region wants to be explored by you and you can enter the Poké League.
- Pokémon Crystal was released that same year and had small enhancements for Gold & Silver. For the first time, you could choose your gender and there were a few changes to the main story.
- In 2003, Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire marked the start of the third generation. The game focuses on the Hoenn region and adds 135 new Pokémon to your index. Team Aqua is your new enemy, after Team Rocket.
- Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen were released in 2004 and represented the first nostalgic look back in the series. This edition is a remake of the first game Blue & Red.
- Pokémon Emerald gave you a few specials for the third generation. The version complements the game Rubin & Saphir. With Pokémon Emerald, you were able to enter the combat zone for the first time in 2005.
- After a two-year break, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl was released. It added 107 new Pokémon for you to catch and receive in the Sinnoh region.
- Pokémon Platinum was released in 2009 and was a content addition to Diamond & Pearl. In the Platinum version, you could also enter the battle zone. In addition, the Twisted World was introduced. Here you can catch the Pokémon Giratina.
- Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver was released in 2010 and took players back to the Johto region. The remake of the Gold & Silver edition not only included graphical updates, but also modified gameplay.
- Pokémon Black & White was released in the same year as the remake and introduced the Unova region to fans. 156 new Pokémon were added. The random battle feature connects Pokémon trainers worldwide.
- Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 continue the story from Black & White. They remain in the Unova region, which has changed somewhat after a leap in time.
- The release of Pokémon X & Y in 2013 marked the beginning of the sixth generation. New evolution possibilities such as Mega Evolution and the introduction of the Fairy type brought innovations to the Pokémon universe.
- The Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire editions were released in 2014. They are the remake of Ruby & Sapphire. The new design and gameplay were well received by fans.
- The seventh generation begins with Pokémon Sun & Moon. Released in 2016, it introduces the Alola region. Mega Evolution was missing, but Z-Attacks were introduced instead.
- Pokémon Ultrasonne & Ultramond was released just one year later and had a few additional contents for the base version Sun & Moon.
- The Galar region came into the Pokémon universe with the 2019 edition Sword & Shield. The eighth generation began with 90 new Pokémon. Nintendo introduced the nature zone for the first time in this edition.
- The first Pokémon DLC was “Armor Island” for Sword & Shield, which was released in 2020. Armor Island was introduced as a new area. Here you can not only train, but also encounter new Pokémon.
- The second Sword & Shield DLC was Crown Snow Land and also came out in 2020. With the Dynamax adventures, you can take on new battles, both alone and with your friends.
- The Remastered Diamond & Pearl was released by Nintendo in 2021. However, fans of the classic version had to do without the Warp World.
- Online multiplayer was released in 2022 with Pokémon Crimson & Crimson. You can use this if you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership. You can still explore the Paldea region and improve your skills as a trainer.
- The additional DLC “The Treasure of Zone Zero: The Turquoise Mask” came in 2023. Here you will get to know the Kitakami Mountains and its monsters. 100 additional Pokémon enrich the game.
- “The Lost Treasure of Zone Zero: Indigo-Blue Disk” is the second DLC for Crimson & Crimson. Become part of the Blue Academy and meet new Pokémon.
- “Epilog” was released in 2024 and concludes the main story of Crimson & Purple. The main story of the ninth generation is now complete.
