You can play Minecraft in the alpha directly via the launcher. You need to activate the corresponding option
Play Minecraft in the Alpha: Activate historical versions
Mojang offers you the opportunity to play the various alpha versions of Minecraft directly via the launcher.
- To do this, you must first activate the option that gives you access to the historical versions. To do this, open the Minecraft Launcher as usual.
- Then open the settings. Within the configuration menu, you will find the section Settings for Minecraft: Java Edition.
- In this section, look for the option Show historical versions of Minecraft: Java Edition in the launcher. Activate this option
- Now it is possible to select the Historical Versions of Minecraft via the installation management.
- Important: You cannot play the alpha of the Bedrock version unless you find an old installer. These are available for the Pocket Edition, for example. For legality reasons, however, we cannot name any sources of supply
Play Minecraft in Alpha: Select historical version
Once you have activated the historical versions in the Minecraft launcher, all you have to do is select the desired alpha version:
- Go to the installations in the launcher. There you can see all versions of Minecraft that are installed on your device:
- Click on the New Installation button located below the search bar. A new window will now open with the available versions
- Scroll down quite far under Version to get to the alpha versions. There you can select the one you want and then install it.
- You can play all beta versions of Minecraft in the same way. You must create a new installation for each version.
