Paladin builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 are suitable for different playstyles. The class can be creatively customized

Paladin build in Baldur’s Gate 3 explained

Paladins in Baldur’s Gate 3 combine powerful arguments with an effective repertoire of spells.

  • Paladins are ideal for players who want to play a hybrid class. You use spells and abilities such as Divine Favor or Divine Strike Down to add holy damage to your weapon damage and buff your party with the aura of protection.
  • At the same time, paladins have a range of healing spells at their disposal, as well as heavy armor and weapons of war. This means you don’t have to worry in battle if you are ever caught in a pincer attack.
  • Another feature of paladins is their charisma, which is useful outside of combat. This allows you to resolve conversations with NPCs peacefully or use them to your advantage. Paladins are born leaders in the game.
  • You have three oaths available as subclasses. These are the Oath of the Ancestors, Devotion and Retribution. You can use these to customize your character even more precisely to your liking.
  • The paladin is a class whose oath determines its morale. For example, the oath of devotion requires that you do not harm hostile creatures just like that. This is an important game and RPG mechanic.
  • Note: Certain decisions in the game can cause you to break your Paladin Oath. This will unlock the secret subclass, the Oathbreaker. They have necromantic abilities and spells at their disposal.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Paladin builds presented

Due to the available paladin oaths and the possible combinations, there are certain builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 that are suitable for numerous situations and offer sufficient punch.

  • The combination of Zariel Tiefling or Gold Dwarf with the Oath of the Ancestors is one of the strongest paladin builds in the game. The special abilities of the respective races ensure that you can either withstand more (Dwarf) or deal more damage via magic (Tiefling).
  • The background soldier provides the necessary athleticism to dominate the battlefield. Rely on high strength, charisma and constitution values so that your paladin can withstand a lot and hit even harder.
  • Eidbreaker builds for the Paladin class are very interesting if you choose a half-orc. Half-orcs have the Stamina ability, which allows them to survive with one HP instead of immediately falling over after losing all their health points.
  • The much more offensive nature of the Oathbreaker fits perfectly with the Soldier background, which provides you with training bonuses in Athletics and Intimidate. Use the subclass’s necromancy to control the battlefield and keep enemies at bay with spells such as Infernal Rebuke
  • Also interesting is the Oath of Devotion in combination with a Githyanki and the Folk Hero background. This build focuses on effective buffs for other characters in the front line and inspires them when they behave heroically.
  • From level 2, choose the Defense fighting style, which will make you a bulwark on the battlefield. Last but not least, use magical weapons and shields to gain an advantage in battle.
