Netflix Games is a new division that the streaming provider wants to establish in its programme. In this article, we explain how it came about and what you need to play games.
Netflix Games – how it came about
The streaming provider Netflix now also provides a division with video games. In this way, the company is trying to grow further, attract new customers and retain old ones.
- Competition is growing and the number of new sign-ups is falling. This prompted Netflix to think about its “games” division to differentiate itself from the competition.
- Cloud gaming is nothing new, but Netflix is the first to combine series streaming and cloud gaming.
- To that end, Netflix has bought a gaming company from the US and started developing its own games.
- The games are included in the price of Netflix, so there are no additional costs and the games are also ad-free. However, this may change as the division expands – depending on how many more games Netflix offers in the future.
How to play Netflix Games
Netflix has initially launched a few games that are available for both Android and iOS users. The Netflix Games include: Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3, Shooting Hoops, Bowling Ballers, Card Blast, Asphalt Extreme and Seesaw. In December 2021, the range was expanded to include Dominoes Café, Wonderputt Forever and Knittens.
- To play the free and ad-free games on Netflix, you must use the Netflix app on your smartphone and have an active Netflix subscription. You will need Android 8.0 or higher (smartphone and tablet) or iOS 15 or higher (iPhone and iPad).
- In the Netflix app, scroll to the Games category on your profile home page and select one.
- Once you go to “Download game”, you will be redirected to the Google Play Store, or the App Store respectively.
- There you click on “Install” and then “Open”.
- You can now find the game either through the Netflix app or under your device apps, where you can log in with your Netflix credentials and start playing.
- If you have problems downloading the game you want, this could be due to a lack of memory on your device. You can usually check the available memory space in your settings.
