Indiana Jones games: The best classics presented
Like Star Wars, Indiana Jones was the brainchild of filmmaker George Lucas. The majority of the franchise’s best video games were released during the heyday of LucasArts (Lucasfilm Games) in the 90s. These primarily include the following:
- Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis (1992) is a point and click adventure game that is generally regarded as the best game in the franchise and offers a completely new story. As Indy in 1939, you search for a weapon in sunken Atlantis that must not fall into the hands of the Nazis. You solve puzzles in the game, which change depending on the path you choose and therefore also influence the ending. There are three paths that increase the replay value:
- Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure (1998) does not offer a new story, but lets you relive the Last Crusade. Thanks to the Indy quotient, you can solve the numerous puzzles in various ways. These are very challenging and make you think. There are even some combat interludes that provide some action
- Indiana Jones’ Greatest Adventures (1994) is a platform game for the Super Nintendo in which you control Indy through the first three parts of the film series. Armed with his characteristic whip, you move through the levels, which are based on the locations from the films. The game is challenging and the level of difficulty should not be underestimated.
The best Indiana Jones games: Highlights of more modern titles
In addition to the classics, there are also some games that were released after the year 2000 and let you slip back into the role of Indiana Jones.
- Lego Indiana Jones: The Legendary Adventures(2008) is one of the best Indiana Jones and Lego games at the same time. In this installment, you relive the first three films in the usual Lego style. You have over 80 characters from the entire franchise at your disposal. You can also create vehicles and your own characters to play with.
- Lego Indiana Jones 2: The New Adventures(2009) is, like the first part, simply one of the best titles for Indy fans. In this one, the focus is on the fourth film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with scenes from the original trilogy interspersed. The gameplay is similar to the first part and significantly expands the scope of game content. This means you can tackle even more Lego treasure hunts
- Last but not least is Indiana Jones and the Legend of the Imperial Tomb (2003) for PC, PS2 and Xbox 360. In this game, you search for an artifact in order to reach the mausoleum of Qin Shihuangdi, the first Chinese emperor. The gameplay is reminiscent of games like Tomb Raider, with a clear focus on action. A fairly good enemy AI for the time and the combat system ensure dynamic confrontations. The story is richly peppered with mythological elements
- Outlook: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the latest game in the franchise, will be released on December 9, 2024. Whether it is one of the best is still unclear, but the glimpses so far seem quite promising.
