Fortnite is now a few years old, which is why the game has had some blatant glitches over the years. Five of them are particularly spectacular
The 5 most blatant Fortnite glitches
When Fortnite came out in 2017, it quickly became a huge success. But even with a title as big as Fortnite, mishaps happen from time to time and these result in bugs or glitches. Most of them are just annoying, but sometimes they can be legendary.
- The most common type of glitch so far is the XP glitch. In Season 3, for example, you could have done a challenge where you had to use 3 ziplines. If you had done this in one game, you would have received 25,000 XP for each additional zipline you used. So if you had used all 75 different ziplines in one game, you could have farmed 1,800,000 XP in just one game.
- A tragic, but also very funny glitch was the toilet of death, which you could also have experienced in Season 3. In Condo Canyon, there was a certain toilet that didn’t teleport players away… but simply killed them. And without further ado:
- Just as funny, but no less tragic, was the shopping cart glitch. Shopping carts were added to Fortnite in Season 4 and served as a means of transportation for players from then on. However, they also had a tendency to suddenly throw you off the map at tremendous speed if you were just a little unlucky.
- In another glitch, you could even become invisible and still shoot at your opponents – an immensely unfair advantage. To do this, you had to have an invisibility cloak equipped, which was part of a campaign with the Predators from the famous movie series, who can also turn invisible. When you activated the cloak, you only had to disconnect and reconnect to the internet for a tiny moment and you were permanently invisible.
- The most devastating glitch of all is the God Mode glitch, which made you immune to damage. You had to teleport to a certain map location by entering the code 0246-0892-8030 and then pressing a certain sequence of keys. This allowed you to enter God Mode and your opponents no longer stood a chance!
What are glitches and how do they happen?
Video games have become a gigantic industry, with companies generating billions in profits and thousands of jobs involved in the programming and design of various titles. So how is it that even big and famous games like Fortnite, which have a huge budget behind them, so often have problems with glitches and bugs? There are several reasons for this.
- Video games are very complex. An incredible number of things have to be coordinated so that a video game works exactly as it should and even the smallest error can be devastating.
- A single game pretty much always has to work on different platforms (like Playstation, Xbox, PC, Switch, etc…). However, each of these platforms has its own requirements, so the game must be adapted to each platform individually. This can lead to errors
- Because many video games have become so huge, different studios often work on a single title. This requires a great deal of coordination, because the individual programmer is only a small piece of a large puzzle. It’s easy to lose sight of the big picture and mistakes can easily creep in.
- Most video games are constantly being updated, things are fixed, added or removed. Sometimes even small changes can have a big impact on the game and every update can introduce new bugs. It’s not for nothing that programmers say: “If you fix one bug, you get two new ones. “
