Evolve Karpador: Here’s how

by Pramith

Evolving Karpador is worthwhile as it gives you the powerful evolution Garados. Karpador has no attack abilities and must therefore be trained passively

Evolving Karpador – these are the requirements

Luckily, you don’t need an item to evolve Karpador, nor do you have to spin in circles at a certain time of day, as the Pokémon Hokumil requires.

  • Karpador evolves into Garados at level 20, regardless of which edition you are playing. You can usually find the Pokémon in bodies of water, e.g. by fishing or swimming in the water. If you have caught a Karpador that has already reached level 20 or higher, you only need to level it up once for it to evolve
  • The special thing about Karpador is that it can’t really attack for the first 15 levels. This is because up to level 15 it only knows the move Splash and this has no effect on the opponent, let alone doing any damage.
  • In most editions, Pokémon gain experience points (XP) by participating in battles. If you have Karpador in first place in the team line-up, it will always be sent into battle at the start of the battle. If you immediately switch the Pokémon to a stronger one and defeat the opponent with it, Karpador will still receive a certain amount of XP even though it did not actively participate in the battle.
  • Feeding your Karpador with the item “Special Candy” increases its level. Karpador rises one level per special treat. As these are not always easy to find, you should think carefully about whether you want to use this for lower levels. In Pokémon Purple and Crimson, there are also XP Candies in different sizes, which only give a certain XP value instead of a whole level
  • Also dependent on the edition you are playing is the existence of the Pokémon Day Center. This service allows you to place a certain number of Pokémon in the care of the Day Care Center, where they continuously receive experience points even though they are not part of your team.
  • In most editions, there is either an item or a function in the settings that allows you to share experience points received among your Pokémon. In the latest games, Crimson and Crimson, for example, the function is permanently activated.
  • Once your Karpador has reached level 20, it automatically evolves into a much stronger Garados and learns more powerful attack moves. In addition to its flight/water duo type, it is also able to learn dragon-type attacks – both by leveling up regularly and by using TMs.

These weak Pokémon also have powerful evolutions

Karpador is not the only Pokémon known to become a powerful Pokémon by evolving. Although there is no Pokémon that is really as useless as the helplessly splashing around fish monster, there are certain Pokémon whose evolutions are much stronger in comparison.

  • One of the best-known evolutionary series in this context is that of the Pokémon Larvitar. It evolves late, at level 30, for the first time into Pupitar, a metal cocoon, and at level 55 into the powerhouse Despotar. Despotar’s total base value of 600 is twice as high as Larvitar’s and it was long regarded as one of the most powerful Pokémon in the competitive scene.
  • The situation is similar with Tanhel, the Steel/Psycho Pokémon from the third Pokémon generation. It evolves into Metang at level 20, but doesn’t learn any attacks until then apart from the tackle it received at level 1. At level 45, Metang becomes Metagross, which, like Despotar, has a total base value of 600 and is therefore also twice as strong as Tanhel.
  • Like Karpador, the Pokémon Abra, which has been around since the first generation, is very helpless. If you encounter Abra in the wild, you have to hurry, as the Psycho Pokémon only has the Teleport ability, which causes it to flee the battle immediately. Only at level 16, when it evolves into Kadabra, does it learn new attacks. Kadabra only evolves into Simsala when it is swapped with another player.
  • Bonus: The tables are turned with the evolution of the Pokémon Nincada. The beetle Pokémon evolves into Ninjask at level 20. If you have at least one Pokéball in your inventory at this point, you will also receive the Pokémon Ninjatom. While Ninjask is stronger than Nincada, Ninjatom, which represents the discarded shell of the newly hatched Pokémon, is weaker than the base Pokémon.
