The salvage compass in Minecraft guides you back to the place where you died in the game after being knocked out. This useful tool requires echo shards for crafting
Minecraft: Craft a salvage compass
If you want to make a salvage compass in Minecraft, you need to be well prepared.
- You need a normal compass to make one. You make this from four iron ingots and a portion of redstone. Place the powder in the middle field and the iron ingots around it, leaving the corners free
- You must also obtain eight echo shards. You can only obtain the shards from chests in Ancient Sites, the home of the Warden.
- To do this, you must dig to a depth of at least minus 51 blocks (Y-axis). You can recognize the ancient site by its size and the dark stone
- Once you have collected eight Echo Shards, you can then craft the Salvage Compass. To do this, place the normal compass in the middle of the crafting window and fill the other fields with the echo shards.
Use the recovery compass in Minecraft
Using the Salvage Compass in Minecraft is easy.
- If you die in the game and return to your spawn point (bed), you can use the salvage compass to find the location of your death. The compass needle always points in this direction
- For this reason, it is advisable to store the salvage compass either in a chest in your house or elsewhere. You can even hang the compass in a frame
- This means you know immediately which direction you need to go in order to recover your lost items. If you die with the salvage compass in your hand, it will also be dropped. It may be worth crafting more than one
- The salvage compass rotates randomly if the place of demise is not in the same dimension. For example, if you are knocked out at the end, you must first travel there again to be able to use the compass.
