Beat Saber: How the multiplayer works

by Pramith

The Beat Saber multiplayer lets you compete against your friends in exciting matches. You can select all the songs that are also available in single-player mode

The most important information about Beat Saber Multiplayer

What you should know about the multiplayer mode:

  • Players: You can compete against up to 5 friends or random opponents in the game. However, only one player at a time can play in multiplayer mode within an account.
  • Songs: There are no restrictions in terms of playable songs. All songs purchased in the base game or expansion packs are available in multiplayer. All future expansions will also be compatible with the multiplayer mode
  • Modes: Of the existing game modes, “One Saber” and “No Arrow” can also be played in multiplayer, while the 90° mode is not compatible.
  • Platforms: The game mode is available via SteamVR, on the Meta Quest and in the PlayStation Plus subscription.
  • Crossplay: If you and your fellow players have different VR devices, you can only compete against each other to a limited extent. Cross-platform play between Meta Quest and SteamVR is supported. PlayStation users cannot currently connect to other devices and this will also no longer be possible for Quest 1 from November 2024
  • Custom Songs Mod: It is not possible to use this mod in multiplayer mode via the Meta Quest glasses. If you still want to use custom songs, you will need to use a different VR headset in combination with the PC version.

Instructions: How to start the multiplayer

The path to a game with other players begins in the main menu:

  • First select the online mode. You will then be redirected to the view for creating your avatar. Here you can customize your character to make you stand out from other players
  • Once you have finished creating your avatar, you must now select the difficulty level for you and your fellow players. The more difficult the game is set, the faster the blocks to be cut will move.
  • Now it’s time to decide on a selection of tracks. If you select the “Built In” option, only songs that are integrated in the basic version of Beat Saber are suggested. However, if you select “All”, tracks from purchased extensions can also be played.
  • If you want to select “All”, you should note that not every player may have purchased the same expansion packs. If a player does not own the selected track, they will have to wait in spectator mode until the song has finished playing.
  • Before the game starts, you and your fellow players will be added to a lobby. This is where you vote for the specific song to be played and then the game starts.
