The True Soul Nere in Baldur’s Gate 3 is, like Minthara, a Drow whom you meet for the first time in the Grymforge. He is buried together with some gnomes and you have to free him.

• Attention: You have to remove the stones before the poison gas kills the dark elf and the gnomes. For this reason, you should not take long rests or use fast travel, as Nere dies due to the time jump.

• You can either use bombs or two charges of smoke powder in succession to blow the stones out of the way. If you don’t have any bombs with you, you can find two bags of smoke powder in the Grymschmiede near the elevator by the docks.

• Alternatively, you can use spells and magic tricks that cause energy damage. These include, for example, eerie beam at higher levels, which must cause at least 22 damage

• If you have characters in your party who also exceed this damage limit with a blast attack, you can solve the problem in this way. This is useful, for example, for characters with the Heavy Weapon Mastery talent to deal ten more damage points with each attack.

• Note: When using the respective method, watch out for the gnomes to avoid hitting them.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Free Nere with explosives

If the options mentioned so far do not work, you can obtain the required explosives via a short side quest in the forge.

• Talk to the gnomes in front of the rubble. If you gain their trust, you will learn that a gnome named Philomeen possesses explosive rune powder.

• Go to the docks and talk to Viss and Brathwen to lure them away. You’ll have to persuade them first. Then pick the lock on the large iron door and enter the corridor behind it.

• Then look left for a button on the wall to get into a secret passage. Three monsters (Ochergallts) are waiting for you there. Kill them or sneak past them

• You will find Philomeen behind a locked door. You must then persuade her to give you the rune powder vials. If you have talked to the gnomes before, you can talk to her about Laridda to reduce the difficulty of the check to 10

• Alternatively, open the tactical view and kill Philomeen to get her supplies. Do not challenge the gnome to a fight, otherwise she will blow herself and your party up.

• With the rune powder in your pocket, you can then free Nere and the gnomes. Afterwards, get ready for a fight that you can’t avoid.
