The Assassin’s Creed series spans many eras. The correct order of the titles is therefore not immediately apparent.
Play Assassin’s Creed in the correct historical order
The Assassin’s Creed games are about the constant struggle between the Templar Order and the Assassins. You can experience the story chronologically in the following order.
- While there were no Assassins or Templars in the fifth century BC, you can still find numerous missions during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018).
- The game Assassin’s Creed: Origins from 2017 tells the story of the power struggle between the Assassins and the Templars.
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage (2023) tells the story of Basim, who roams the streets of ninth-century Baghdad as a street thief and joins the Hidden Ones.
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020) also takes place in the 9th century AD, just over a decade after Mirage. As the Viking Eivor from the harsh north, you go on the prowl in England, conquering land and expanding your settlement.
- During the Third Crusade and the struggle for the Holy Land in the 12th century, you follow the assassin Altaïr.
- His story is first told in Assassin’s Creed: Altaïr Chronicles, released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS, followed by the series’ debut title, Assassin’s Creed (2007), and Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines (2009) for the Sony PSP.
- Ezio returns in Assassin’s Creed II (2009) to the 15th century in Renaissance Italy. The story is explored further in Assassin’s Creed Discovery (2009) on Nintendo DS.
- The sequels Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (2010) and Assassin’s Creed Revelations (2011) take Ezio first to Rome and then to Constantinople.
- In the 16th century, Assassin’s Creed Shadows (2025) tells the story of the Shinobi assassin Naoe and the African samurai Yasuke in Japan.
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013) revolves around the pirate Edward Kenway in the Caribbean in the 18th century.
- The DLC Assassin’s Creed: Call to Freedom (2013) allows you to immerse yourself even deeper in the pirate life.
- Assassin’s Creed Rogue (2014) bridges the time between Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed III.
- The grandson of Edward continues the story in Assassin’s Creed III (2012) at the same time in North America during the American Revolution and the War of Independence.
- At the same time, the assassin Aveline fights against the Templar order during the Seven Years’ War in Assassin’s Creed: Liberation (2012).
- At the same time, Assassin’s Creed Unity (2014) is set in Paris during the French Revolution.
- Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (2015) is the last game in the series so far in the chronology and takes place during the Industrial Revolution in London.
- Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR (2023) cannot be assigned to a single time. You play as Ezio in Renaissance Italy (Assassin’s Creed 2), as Connor during the American Revolution (Assassin’s Creed 3), and as Kassandra in ancient Greece (Assassin’s Creed Odysse).
