Tame a Fjordhawk in ARK to have the ideal companion to save your loot. Taming the bird of prey turns out to be simple.
ARK Survival Evolved: This is why you should tame a Fjordhawk
In ARK Survival Evolved, the Fjordhawk proves to be a particularly useful hawk. This bird makes an excellent “loot savior”, as it will return loot to your spawn point in the event of your demise. Besides, the Fjordhawk is the perfect hunting companion and will assist you in your adventures.
- The Fjordhawk is a small but smart survivalist in ARK Survival Evolved. Compared to other creatures, he is rather small. However, his intelligence has taught him how to survive in the wild. He tracks predators and waits patiently for them to kill their prey. Then he strikes to secure an easy meal. In addition, the Fjordhawk is also able to anticipate danger and avoid it.
- When taming, you will quickly discover how playful this little bird can be. His favorite game is fetch and you can train your Fjordhawk to bring you things. A well-trained Fjordhawk can even be used to locate injured prey. With a symbol above the heads of your hunting prey, it will show you if it is injured or already killed.
- One of the arguably most important features of the Fjordhawk is its ability to return your loot to the spawn point should you meet your demise. However, this feature is only performed if the Fjordhawk itself does not perish. So with a tamed Fjordhawk, you no longer have to worry about your hard-won loot disappearing or being stolen by other players.
- When you carry a tamed Fjordhawk on your shoulder, it is virtually invulnerable. You can tell this by the shield icon in the bottom right of the status bar. However, this invulnerability does not seem to be present in caves. The shield symbol is not displayed here. For this reason, it is especially important that you take care of your bird and protect it from possible dangers in caves.
ARK Survival Evolved: How to tame the Fjordhawk
You should select a lone Fjordhawk for taming in Ark Survival Evolved. This way you won’t have to mess with a group. The taming process is relatively straightforward.
- You only need to kill prey near the selected fjord hawk. The bird will fly to this place by itself and consume the food. Make sure that there are no or few other fjordhawks in the vicinity. Otherwise, they would all pounce like vultures on carrion.
- Each Fjordhawk takes three bites out of each prey before it disappears. Each bite increases the taming level and the process can take a while. The duration depends on how many life points or how large the inventory of the prey is. If the target has a higher number of health points or a larger inventory size, the taming process will be faster. The level of the fjordhawk or the loot does not affect the process.
- Certain dinosaurs make ideal food sources for taming fjordhawks. Ovis are particularly effective and get the Fjordhawk’s taming bar rising very quickly. Some players have even reported that just one animal can be enough.
- Stone golems on Fjordur are also a good option as a food source. Although the taming bar per bite does not increase as much as with the Ovis, the stone golem does not disappear and multiple Fjordhawks can be tamed at the same time. While it may be difficult to obtain a stone golem, the yield of tamed fjord hawks is great. However, it is unclear if this is a bug and if this method will be fixed in the future.
