You should wash strawberries properly to get rid of various residues like soil. The taste can be lost due to some mistakes
Typical mistakes when washing strawberries: This is what you should avoid
Mistakes when washing or storing strawberries can quickly cause the delicate fruit to lose its flavour. You should never make the following mistakes:
- Do not wash the strawberries under running water. The hard water jet will cause pressure marks and the strawberries will lose their flavour.
- If you do not want to eat the strawberries immediately, do not wash and clean them yet.
- Do not remove the stems and leaves before washing.
How to clean the berries properly
To keep the flavour and vitamins in the strawberries, follow this order:
- Wash the strawberries only before eating or before further processing. If the strawberries are to be put in the refrigerator overnight, for example, put them in unwashed and covered.
- Fill a bowl or your sink with cool tap water.
- Place the strawberries in the water and move them around. This should loosen any debris such as sand, soil or wilted leaves from the fruit.
- Then drain the strawberries well in a sieve. If you want them to be completely dry, you can also dab them with kitchen paper and dry them.
