Make your own pumpkin puree with just one ingredient – here’s how

by Flo

To make your own pumpkin puree, you only need one ingredient. In this article, we will introduce you to two methods for turning an edible pumpkin into a delicious puree.

Make your own pumpkin puree: Here’s how

All you need for a delicious pumpkin puree is an edible pumpkin. For example, a Hokkaido pumpkin is ideal for the following recipe.

  • First cut your pumpkin into cubes and remove the pumpkin seeds. If you are using a Hokkaido pumpkin, you can leave the skin on, otherwise you will need to remove it from the pieces with a knife.
  • Fill a large saucepan with water and heat it until the water boils. Now you can put in the pumpkin pieces.
  • The pumpkin must boil for about 20 to 30 minutes so that it becomes soft. Then you can drain off the water.
  • Now all you have to do is puree the cooked pumpkin pieces. A blender is ideal for this.
  • You can then process the homemade puree directly or fill it into sealable jars and store it in the fridge for about 5 days.

Pumpkin puree without cooking

A second preparation method that is suitable for making a delicious pumpkin puree is to cook it in the oven:

  • For this preparation method, you must first preheat your oven to 200 °C top and bottom heat.
  • In the meantime, you can core and dice your pumpkin. You can remove the peel only after baking.
  • Now place the chopped pumpkin on a baking tray with baking paper and put it in the oven for at least 30 minutes.
  • Once the pumpkin is soft, you can take it out of the oven. Then let the pieces cool for a short while and remove the peel if it is not edible.
    • After that, the pumpkin just needs to be pureed with the help of a blender. After that, the pumpkin puree is ready for further processing.
