Opening hours for Easter 2023
- Gunday Thursday (6 April): Retailers will offer their goods for sale during normal opening hours. However, expect very long queues.
- Kariffritag (7 April): Retailers will remain closed, including supermarkets, discount stores and drugstores.
- Carnival Saturday (8 April): As Holy Saturday is not a public holiday, shops will also be open on this day at their usual Saturday opening hours.
- When supermarkets are open on Holy Saturday depends on the applicable shop opening law of the respective federal state. In some cases, retailers are allowed to align themselves with increased customer demand. This means that in some federal states, food retailers could open longer on Holy Saturday.
- Easter Sunday (April 9): Retailers will remain closed, including supermarkets, discount stores and drugstores.
- Easter Monday (April 10): Again, retailers nationwide will be closed, including supermarkets, discount stores and drugstores.
