What are the unhealthiest products at Burger King, McDonald’s and Subway? It is generally known that fast food should not appear on your everyday menu. But which dishes should you definitely avoid at the relevant chains? We’ll tell you in this article.
Unhealthy products at McDonald’s, Burger King and Subway: How to recognise them
Did you know that at McDonald’s and Burger King you can see all the nutritional information in the restaurant? How many grams of fat and sugar are contained and of course the calorie information is on the packaging or on your tray. At Subway you don’t have the opportunity to do this on site, but you can also read all the nutritional information about the individual sandwiches on the internet. By the way, a burger, a sandwich or a portion of fries does not argue against a healthy diet – the variety and above all the quantity makes the difference.
McDonald’s: These are the unhealthiest products
- Fast food giant McDonald’s carries all sorts of dishes that can only be described as healthy to a certain extent:
- The highest calorie product you can order at McDonald’s right now is the Signature Avocado Chilli Cheese Burger with 1042 kcal per serving.
- This is followed by the Chicken and Cheese Box. With 12 Chicken McNuggets, 6 Brie cheese puffs and 3 sauces, the box makes it to 1039 kilocalories with 63 grams of fat.
- With 893 kcal per portion each, the 20 Chicken Nuggets Box and the Signature Salsa Avocado Burger follow. For comparison, a cheeseburger has 302 kilocalories. So if you eat 2 of these and drink a soft drink with them, you will have consumed about the same amount of energy as after eating a 20 chicken nuggets box.
- A menu of the popular Big Mac, a medium portion of fries and a medium Coke (0.4L) might be a typical choice when you eat at McDonald’s.
- The menu has a total of 1003 kilocalories – that’s less than a chicken and cheese box.
- Not to be underestimated are the desserts. These contain significantly more sugar than a burger. A McFrappé Choc 0.4 l contains 545 kcal, 16 grams of fat and 78 grams of sugar per serving.
- However, products that are heavily salted, such as French fries, and products that contain a lot of fat are not only unhealthy because of the high calorie counts. These ingredients promote cardiovascular diseases and should therefore rarely be included in the menu.
Unhealthy food at Burger King
Burger King’s menu doesn’t present itself as particularly low in calories either:
- The highest calorie burger you can eat at Burger King is the King’s Mustard & Smoked Cheese Double Burger: It contains 1120 calories and 68.8 grams of fat.
- King’s Grilled Paprika Double makes it to second place with 1108 Kcal per serving and 70.3 grams of fat.
- The Double Steakhouse Burger also makes an impact with 1079 Kcal and 70 grams of fat.
- The Chilli Cheese Fries are more of a main meal than a side dish in terms of nutritional value: 526 kilocalories in one serving.
- Significantly lower in calories are, for example, the Big King with 373 Kcal and the Cheeseburger with 334 Kcal and 19.7 and 15.5 grams of fat respectively.
Subway: A healthy alternative?
Freshly folded in front of your eyes, sandwiches, unlike burgers, give the appearance of being a healthier alternative with less fat.
– Again, it’s all in the composition. Greasy sauces and double cheese make a sub similarly rich as a burger.
– The highest calorie product at Subway is the Chicken Caesar Wrap. 574 Kcal and 23 grams of fat are in a 15-centimetre sandwich. If you eat a 30-centimetre Sub, you will get 1148 kilocalories.
– A little way behind is the Chilli Chicken Wrap with 551 kilocalories and 19 grams of fat in 15 centimetres.
– Note that depending on the choice of ingredients, the calorie figures also differ. These differ only slightly for salads and vegetables, but can make a big difference especially for cheese and sauces.
