Surface does not start: Possible causes for the problem
If your Microsoft Surface does not start, it can have various causes. Below is an overview of possible sources of error and possible solutions. After each troubleshooting, try booting the device again as usual.
– Battery: Your Surface battery may be dead and needs to be charged. Connect your original Surface power adapter to your device. You do not need to wait for the battery to fully charge. The power supply is sufficient for this purpose.
– Faulty cable: Check that the charging cable is working. Look for breaks and check that the indicator light on the charger is on when it is plugged into the socket. You can also try a different power source.
– External Devices: Occasionally, a connected device may cause an error that prevents the unit from starting. Disconnect all USB devices as well as docks such as the Surface Dock and try again.
– Defective power button: If the power button on your device is defective, the device will not start in the traditional way. If a Surface keyboard is connected to your machine, you can try using the key combination [Windows key] + [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [B] to boot up your machine
– Heat: If your Surface overheats, it may refuse to restart. Wait for some time and put your Surface in a cool place. Try again after a while
– If these steps did not fix the problem, you can try forcing the machine to start. We explain the procedure in the next chapter.
