If you want to import a PDF document into OpenOffice, you will only see cryptic characters by default. To be able to display and edit the files correctly, an extension is required.

  • Important: Make sure that you have the latest OpenOffice version installed on your computer. This will prevent possible problems with the plugin.
  • Download the PDF Import for Apache OpenOffice add-on for your operating system. Finally, open the OXT file to start the OpenOffice Extension Manager.
  • You will receive a message asking whether you want to activate the extension. Confirm this with OK. The plugin is now activated and you can import PDF files.
  • To open a PDF document in OpenOffice, right-click on the file and select Open with. Click on OpenOffice in the selection. Of course you can drag a PDF file directly into the program to open it.
  • Your PDFs open automatically in OpenOffice via the first variant and you can edit both the text and the images there.
  • Attention: Depending on the file size, it can take quite a long time to open the PDF file in this way.
