Lifesum or Yazio: This is Yazio

With Yazio, you can not only track your calories, but also set yourself goals. To do this, you enter data such as your height and body weight. The app then suggests how many calories you should eat every day to lose or gain weight. You can also specify how much weight you want to lose or gain.

  • You can track your breakfast, lunch, dinner and also snacks in between in the app. Yazio shows you how many macros (carbohydrates, protein and fat) your food contains. With the paid pro version, you can also display vitamins, minerals, etc.
  • To track food, you can either scan the barcode or search for the food manually. If your product is not in the database, you can also add food yourself. You can also create your own recipes and meals.
  • On the app’s homepage you have an overview of how many calories you still have to eat until your daily goal. There you can also see how much carbohydrates, protein and fat you have consumed so far that day. With the water meter you can also track how much water you have drunk. You can also add your current weight and sporting activities on the home page.
  • You can also choose between different diets (e.g. low carb, low fat or high protein). You can also choose for yourself what percentage of your macros should be carbohydrates, protein and fat respectively.
  • Yazio also includes recipes. For most of them, you need the paid Pro version, though you can access a recipe or two with the free version.

Lifesum – The Alternative

An alternative to Yazio is Lifesum. This app also allows you to enter your data on weight, height, age, etc. Then you can decide how many kilograms you want to lose or gain per week. The app then calculates a daily target for how many calories you should eat.

  • On the start page you will find an overview of your daily calories. Similar to Yazio, you can see how many calories you have already consumed and how many macros (carbohydrates, protein, fat) you still need to reach your daily target. With Lifesum you can also track breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks separately.
  • You can track food by scanning the barcode or manually entering the products and their macros in the app. You can also add your own recipes and meals on Lifesum.
  • You can also add workouts on the home screen and enter how much water you have already drunk.
  • You can choose between different diets, for example classic diet, high protein, ketogenic, vegan, paleo, etc. There are also tests linked in the app for obesity, muscle type and lactose intolerance. However, these must be purchased.
  • The paid premium version also lets you track your macros and calories more accurately, gives you recipes, lets you create your own meals and pairs Lifesum with other health apps.
  • The profile also tells you how many days in a row you have tracked your food. This should motivate you to use the app and stay on the ball.

Yazio vs. Lifesum
