How to rotate videos on Android

by Mike

You can rotate videos on Android into portrait or landscape format without any additional app. You can use the pre-installed Gallery app or the Google Photos app for this.

Rotating videos on Android: in the Gallery app

If you film with your smartphone, the video may be recorded in the wrong format. If you want to rotate videos from portrait to landscape format or vice versa, you can use your smartphone’s gallery app.

  • Open the Gallery app and tap the video you want to rotate.

  • Tap the pencil icon at the bottom of the screen.

  • Select the crop icon. It’s the icon with a square and a curved arrow above it.

  • Tap the arrow once to rotate the video by 90 degrees. If you want to rotate the video by a specific number of degrees, use the slider below. To do this, tap and hold the bar with the white markers and move your finger to the left or right to set the desired angle of rotation.

  • Once you’ve rotated the video correctly, tap “Save as copy”.

Alternative: Rotate videos with Google Photos

If you can’t rotate your videos using the Gallery app, you can also use the Google Photos app.

  • Open the app and select the desired video.

  • Tap the “Edit” button at the bottom and select “Crop”.

  • You can rotate your video by 90 degrees using the arrow symbol. Alternatively, there is a slider that allows you to set the exact angle for rotation.

  • Confirm the changes by tapping on “Save as copy”.
