The company xAI, founded by Elon Musk, is working on the development of the artificial intelligence “Grok”. This is in competition with ChatGPT from OpenAI.
Grok: Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence
In July 2023, multi-billionaire Elon Musk founds the company xAI. It brings together employees from OpenAI, Google and the University of Toronto.
The first program of the start-up company “Grok” was presented at the beginning of November.
- Grok is a chatbot tool that is designed to compete with similarly functioning AI programs such as ChatGPT. Users on a PC or smartphone make requests and give commands to the artificial intelligence, which Grok is supposed to process as quickly as possible.
- Grok differs from ChatGPT, for example, which was developed by OpenAI and is used by Microsoft’s Bing, in its ability to make its own suggestions for in-depth topics and respond humorously or even sarcastically.
- In everyday language, the English word “grok” means “to understand” or “to have grasped” in German.
- In contrast to other AI programs, Grok can process real-time information and obtain its data from the social network “X”. Elon Musk claims that Grok can also answer tricky questions that other chatbots don’t want to answer
How to use the ChatGPT alternative
A registration with Grok is not yet possible. The chatbot is currently in a test phase in the USA and is only accessible to a limited number of users.
- After this test phase, Grok will be integrated into X (formerly known as Twitter) and will be usable within the platform.
- In future, only paying Premium users will be able to access the AI chatbot. To do so, you have to book the new ad-free X-Premium+ variant. This costs 16 euros per month or 168 euros per year
- If you have a Premium account in Germany, you can hope to get one of the limited waiting list places by signing up for Grok’s test program.
