Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro: These are the differences
Both Google Pixel 8 models offer advantages and disadvantages that you should be aware of when making your choice. The devices differ in the following aspects:
- Display: The Google Pixel 8 comes with a 6.2″ (157 mm) display. With the Pixel 8 Pro, you get a larger display with 6.7″ (170 mm). Both models have a smooth display with up to 120 Hz.
- Resolution: The Pixel 8 Pro also offers more in terms of resolution and comes with a 1344 x 2992 pixel LTPO OLED panel at 489 ppi. The OLED of the Pixel 8 has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels with a ppi of 428.
- Brightness: In terms of brightness, the Google Pixel 8 offers up to 1,400 cd/m² with HDR. The peak brightness is 2,000 cd/m². The Pixel 8 Pro achieves slightly more with 1,600 cd/m² (HDR) and a maximum brightness of 2,400 cd/m².
- Display glass: The Pixel 8 Pro has a scratch-resistant cover glass made of Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2, while the smaller model has the first generation of cover glass.
- Battery: Google has installed a 4,575 mAh battery in the Pixel 8 and a 5,050 mAh battery in the Pixel 8 Pro. According to the manufacturer, they therefore offer more than 24 hours of battery life with normal use and up to 72 hours when using the extreme energy-saving mode.
- Memory: With the LPDDR5X, both Pixel 8s are equipped with fast RAM from Samsung. This is 8 GB (Pixel 8) or 12 GB (Pixel 8 Pro)
- Internal memory: The same type is also used for the internal memory. UFS 3.1 memory is used. The Pixel 8 is available with 128 or 256 GB of internal memory. A 512 GB variant is only available with the Pixel 8 Pro.
- Ultra wide-angle camera: Various ultra wide-angle cameras are built into the devices. The Pixel 8 uses a sensor with 12 megapixels and a field of view of 125.8°. The Pro model comes with a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and offers a slightly smaller field of view of 125.5°.
- Telephoto lens: Only the Google Pixel 8 Pro has a telephoto lens. It has a 48 megapixel lens with 5x optical zoom and enables a so-called “super-resolution zoom” of up to 30x.
- Front camera: The selfie camera has a resolution of 10.5 megapixels on both models. The only difference is that the Pixel 8 has fixed focus and the Pixel 8 Pro has autofocus
- Price: The Google Pixel 8 has an RRP of 799 euros in the smallest storage version. The recommended retail price of the Pixel 8 Pro with 128 GB is 1099 euros.
