The Google Pixel smartphones 8 and 8 Pro are marketed as waterproof. We show you what is meant by the certification.
Google Pixel 8 – this is how waterproof the smartphone is
With an IP certification, the Google Pixel 8 is protected against water.
- The Google Pixel 8 is IP68 certified, making it water resistant.
- The International Electrotechnical Commission has established this certification.
- The abbreviation IP stands for “International Protection”, which classifies the various water resistances of devices.
- With an IP68 protection rating, the Google Pixel smartphone can survive up to 30 minutes in 1.5 meters of water.
- However, the protection is only guaranteed under ideal conditions. Therefore, except for fresh water, all other liquids are excluded.
This is how waterproof the Google Pixel 8 Pro is
Like its sister model, the Google Pixel 8 Pro is also waterproof.
- The Google smartphone has the same IP68 certification and is thus protected against water.
- In this case, the protection also only applies to fresh water. Seawater or chlorinated water can therefore have harmful effects on the device.
- Additionally, you should note that with daily use of the smartphone, the protection may decrease over time.
- Therefore, do not expose your Google Pixel 8 or 8 Pro to water more than necessary. However, in everyday situation, such as rain, you do not need to worry.
