Create folders on the Android home screen – here’s how

by Pramith

If you create folders on your Android home screen, you can sort similar apps into groups to create more space.

How to create folders on the Android home screen

On your home screen, you have the most important apps directly in view. If you have too many, it quickly becomes confusing. The solution: You can create folders on the Android home screen.

  • Tap and hold an icon for a few seconds until you can move it.
  • Place the icon over another app. As soon as you remove your finger from the screen, Android will create a folder.
  • You can then use drag gestures to move other apps into the folder.
  • Press the folder to open it. A selection of all the apps you have grouped in it will appear.

Android: Renaming a new folder

Android automatically names new folders “Unnamed folder”. You can change the name as you like.

  • Open a folder by clicking on it.
  • Now tap the title at the bottom of the folder – so for a new folder, tap “Unknown folder”.
  • Now you can name the folder.
