Sometimes it happens on Android smartphones that you cannot cancel a download of speech data from “Speech Services by Google”. In this practical tip, we tell you what you can do about this.
Cancel the download of speech data on Android: This is how you proceed
The speech data that Android automatically downloads is intended for the app “Speech Services by Google”. This allows you to have texts read aloud to you. Sometimes the download of the speech data hangs and cannot be cancelled easily. In this case, you should stop the app and delete the in-app data.
- First open the settings of your Android smartphone and tap on “Apps”.
- Find the app “Speech Services by Google” and tap the entry once briefly.
- Then select the item “Force Stop” to stop the app.
- Finally, to clear the in-app data, tap “Memory” and tap “Clear data'”.
Alternative: Disable Speech Services by Google
If you know that you do not want to use the service for reading aloud, you can also deactivate the app. Uninstalling it, on the other hand, is not possible because the app is a system service.
- To deactivate, open Settings again and tap on “Apps”.
- Find the entry “Speech Services by Google” in the list and tap on it.
- You can switch off the service on your smartphone via the “Deactivate” item and a confirmation via “Deactivate app”.
