With Android 12 on your smartphone, you can activate one-handed mode in just a few steps. We explain in detail how to do this and what options are available.
Android 12 – Enable one-handed mode
Android 12 brings with it some new features. The one-handed mode is especially handy for smartphones with large displays.
- To activate one-handed mode, open the Settings app on your Android smartphone.
- Select “System” in the settings and then “Gestures and movements”.
- On Android 12, you will find the option “One-handed mode” here. Slide the slider to the right to activate one-handed mode.
- To use one-handed mode, now swipe down from the bottom of the screen. All apps are now easily accessible with one hand.
- Alternatively, you can also activate a small switch instead of the swipe gesture on the right edge of the screen.
More one-handed mode options
Normally, one-handed mode is activated by swiping down at the bottom of the screen.

You can choose between 4, 8 and 12 seconds. If you do not want the one-handed mode to be automatically deactivated in case of inactivity, select the option “never”.
