Substitutes for quark: alternative dairy products and vegan options

by Flo

If you are looking for a substitute for quark, some dairy products and vegan options are ideal for this. Whether it’s for cheesecake or for potato dip, you can find a suitable alternative for any recipe

Substitute for curd – these dairy products are suitable

If you don’t have any quark at home, even though you urgently need it for a recipe, you can also use alternative dairy products instead.

  • Fresh cheese has a similar consistency and is therefore well suited as a quark substitute. This is especially true for cakes, pies and other desserts. Here we show you a delicious recipe for cheesecake with cream cheese.
  • You may need to add some milk to the recipe here, as cream cheese is usually not as runny as quark. It is also advisable to use a low-fat version, as it tastes closer to quark.
  • Mascarpone is also a popular alternative. Here, however, make sure that the fat content of the two foods differs greatly: Mascarpone has a fat content of about 50%, quark only 20%, and low-fat quark even less than 10%.
  • Greek yoghurt can also be used as a substitute. In terms of taste, it is very similar to quark. However, as it can be a little too wet, you should drain it first. The same applies to ordinary yoghurt.
    • The last milk alternative is the cream cheese ricotta. This is especially popular for cheesecakes.

    Vegetable alternatives for curd

If you are on a vegan diet and your recipe contains curd, you can easily replace it with certain plant-based foods.

    • There are many soy alternatives that you can use for cooking and baking. Especially in organic countries you will find a wide range of vegan curd substitutes.
    • But it doesn’t necessarily have to be soy-based quark: Soy yoghurt is also great.
    • Almond-based vegan curd is also available. An example here is the quark alternatives from Simply V.
