iPhone Widget: Activate and use

by Tobias

Since iOS 8, you can use widgets on the iPhone. You can find them in the “Today” view in the notification centre. Read this practical tip to find out how to activate and use widgets.

Enable and use widgets on the iPhone

For widgets you need at least iOS version 8.0, so if necessary check under “Settings” ☻ “General” ☻ “Software update” whether an update is available.

  • To use third-party widgets on the iPhone or iPad, you must download and install the corresponding app from the App Store.
  • From the lock screen or home screen, swipe right to go to the “Today” view.
  • Alternatively, you can first open the notification centre by swiping down from the top of the screen.
  • Then swipe to the right to get to the “Today” view. This way, you can get to the view you want from anywhere, even if you were in an app before.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the “Today” view and tap the “Edit” button there.
  • Tap and hold the right icon, you can move the individual widgets around to sort them in the order you want.
  • Once you have finished sorting, tap “Done” in the top right corner.
