Repairing a USB cable – this is how it works

You should repair a defective USB cable as soon as possible, as it is very often only usable to a limited extent or not at all. In most cases you can do the repair yourself – you can do it with a little trick.

Repair the USB cable yourself: Shielding defective

In just a few steps you can quickly repair a defective USB cable and restore its functionality.

• If the USB cable is damaged, you can repair the shielding yourself. To do this, you need a nib from a biro and some tape.
• You simply wrap the spring over the broken area so that it is reconnected to the cable.
• If you don’t have a spring handy, you can also use a piece of thin wire or plasticine.
• To protect the cable, wrap the spring completely with tape. Fabric tape is best for this, but household scotch tape will also do.

• The USB cable can now be used again.
