by Mike

You should update your Mac OS X system regularly, for example to install important security updates on your Mac. This guide will show you how to update your Mac to the latest version.

Updating the Mac OS X system

Update your system in just a few steps. The update can be performed directly from your desktop.

  • Click on the Apple logo in the Apple system bar and then select the item “System Preferences” and in the window that opens click on “Software Update”.
  • If you want to update your Mac, click on “Update now”. For older macOS versions, you can get to “Software Update” by clicking the Apple logo in the system bar and then “About this Mac”.
  • The operating system will now install all updates for your macOS version. At the same time, see if there is an official system upgrade available from Apple.
  • Click the “Upgrade Now” button to install the latest macOS version on your Mac.

Display updates automatically

A feature can be enabled in the system settings to automatically remind you of available app and system updates.

    • Open the System Preferences in your Dock.
    • Click on the menu item “App Store” here.
    • Here you will now find the option “Update my Mac automatically”. Put a tick in the box to be reminded of current updates in the future.
    • You no longer have to worry about keeping your system up to date. You will always have the latest macOS version on your Mac.
