If you want to use Wi-Fi abroad to surf the internet, you have various options. In this practical tip, we tell you how you can surf the Internet for free while on holiday.
WLAN abroad – these are the options
- Hotel: Most hotels abroad now offer free WLAN. Contact reception at the front desk to get all the information about this
- Cafés & Bars: Many bars and cafés also offer a free Wi-Fi hotspot. You can get the information from the staff.
- Known Wi-Fi spots: When abroad, look specifically for a McDonald’s, Starbucks or Burger King. In most cases, you will also find a free WLAN hotspot there.
- Shopping centre: While shopping, you can access the Internet wirelessly and free of charge in many large shopping centres.
- Library: Even though you have to be quiet here at all times, the library is great for surfing via WLAN.
- On the road: If you are travelling by long-distance bus, you can often use WLAN here too. You can also find free hotspots at train stations or airports.
- Travel hotspot: With a travel hotspot, you can have Wi-Fi everywhere you go. However, you have to pay something for it. Either you buy an unlocked device into which you can insert a SIM card, or you buy a router that works without a SIM. For this, you can easily book a daily or monthly package to have internet access worldwide.
