PC hangs up – what to do?

by Pramith

If your PC hangs up frequently and no longer responds, this can have several causes. We will show you how to solve the problem.

PC hangs up: Check hard drive for errors

If your PC hangs frequently, this may be due to the hard disk. Therefore, you should check it for errors.

  • First open the command prompt as an administrator.
  • Enter the command “chkdsk” and confirm with the Enter key.
  • The next time Windows is started, the hard disk is checked for errors. If problems are found, Windows fixes them directly.

Other possible causes

If Windows has checked your hard disk for errors but the PC still hangs, it may be due to the following causes:

  • Memory: Also check your hard disk memory. If there is no more memory available, but Windows wants to save something on the hard disk, the system may freeze.
  • Memory: Check your hard disk memory as well.
  • Mainboard: Open your computer and check all plug connections. If one of the connections is loose, you have found the fault.
  • Error log: If Windows detects the error itself, it is documented. Open the category “System and Security” in the Control Panel and select “Event Viewer” under “Administration”. If an error report is available, you can find it here.
