Play Minecraft over LAN – this is how it works

by Mike

Since version 1.6, you can easily play “Minecraft” with other people over LAN. You can find out how to do this here.

Play Minecraft over a LAN server

  • Start the game Minecraft as usual.
  • Select “Singleplayer” and start the world you want, or create a new one.
  • Click the “Escape Button” in the game and then select “Open for LAN”.
  • Adjust the settings and click “OK”.
  • The server will now start. A message appears in the chat about which port the server is running.

    Join the Minecraft LAN server

    • Open the game Minecraft.
    • Click on “Multiplayer”.
    • After a short while, the server should appear in the list. Select it and click on “Join”.
If this does not work, check your firewall to see if it is blocking Minecraft and the additional “server process”. You can also temporarily disable the firewall completely. You can find out how to do this here.
