If the windscreen wipers on your car are worn out, you can easily change them yourself. We show you how it’s done.

First, take a look at the manual. On some cars, you need to move the windscreen wipers to the service position using the indicator lever before removing them.

• You can then simply fold up the wipers. It is best to place a blanket or cardboard on the lower part of the windscreen so that the wiper arm does not snap back directly onto the windscreen in the worst case.

• The windscreen wipers are attached to the wiper arms with a clamping or plug-in mechanism. The back of the packaging of the new wipers explains how to loosen this.

• Disassemble the wipers according to the instructions and then insert the new wipers according to the instructions. Listen for the clicking sound. It gives you confirmation that the wipers are properly engaged.

• Then carefully put the wiper arms back on the windscreen.

When to change windscreen wipers on your car

Windscreen wipers usually last for several years. The durability depends not only on how often you drive, but also on what kind of weather the car is exposed to.

• If the windscreen wipers draw streaks on your windows, it is high time to change them. If the rubber becomes brittle or is cracked, a change is also advisable.

• You can get new windscreen wipers both online and locally at garages or petrol stations. When buying, make sure that the wipers explicitly fit your car model.
