Stax or LEGO: How to choose correctly - Practical Tips

Stax or LEGO: How to choose correctly

by Pramith

Stax and Lego products have one major difference. The Stax bricks light up, the Lego bricks do not. We put the two toy manufacturers under the microscope.

Lego has a bigger selection than Stax

Lego products are very diverse. There is something for all ages.

  • Lego offers a colourful range of products. There are detailed vehicles, for example in the Lego Technique series. Lego fans can also recreate buildings out of the bricks. Lego also offers many licensed products. For example, if you want to recreate planes from the Star Wars films, you can do so with
  • Lego serves customers of all ages. Kids get sets to play with, teenagers can assemble sports cars and there are detailed showcase models for adults too.
  • Lately, however, Lego has come under criticism more often because of high prices. In any case, the brand name is clearly reflected in the prices.

The sets from Stax glow in bright colours. Lego doesn’t have this special feature yet.

  • You can make a Stax set glow by using a building block with a battery. This is included in most sets, but is also not included in some expansion sets.
  • Stax’s sets are a little more one-dimensional than Lego’s. Most packages simply come with different coloured bricks that can be used to build simple figures (animals, for example). Instructions are available for PDF download on the manufacturer’s website.
  • The technology inside the Stax bricks is reflected in the price. A set with 240 pieces for free creative building costs just under 80 euros at Stax. At Lego, sets with a comparable number of pieces are already available for less than 30 euros. In addition, Lego offers sets for free building with just under 800 parts for less than 50 euros.

Stax is compatible with Lego

Stax parts can be used to expand your Lego sets.

  • If you already have Lego sets, you can make them shine with Stax parts. For example, for Lego cities, this is a nice extension.
  • The only advantage the Stax sets have over Lego is their luminosity. Otherwise, the sets are more expensive and the selection is smaller.
  • Don’t disregard Lego’s other competitors when deciding what to buy. Manufacturers like CaDA or Cobi offer comparable products to Lego at much lower prices.
