Set your iPhone ringtone without iTunes – here’s how

by Pramith

If you want to create your own ringtone for your iPhone, you can do so without iTunes. We’ll show you how it works.

iPhone: Create ringtone without iTunes

Instead of iTunes, reach for an app. Only the Apple application GarageBand allows you to create ringtones directly without iTunes. The app is completely free, but just under two gigabytes in size.

  • Start GarageBand and select “Audio Recorder” under “Tracks”.
  • Tap on the small plus symbol in the top right corner and select “Automatic” under “Section A”.
  • Deactivate the clock encoder at the top next to the red record button.
  • Use the looping button at the top right to select the desired song from your iPhone.
  •  Cut the song to a ringtone of maximum 30 seconds. To do this, move the slider to the desired position in the song.
  •  Tap on the sound track and tap on “Share”. If you drag the scissors icon downwards, the audio track will be split. Then delete the unnecessary parts of the song.
  •  Tap the small arrow at the top right and select “My songs”. Tap “Select” on the right and highlight the ringtone.
  •  Use the Upload button to save the sound as a “ringtone”. Assign a suitable name for it.
    • Afterwards, you only have to set the ringtone as a new ringtone in the “Settings” app under “Sounds & Haptics”.
