If you want to upgrade your PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the Windows 11 installation wizard will help you with the free upgrade. We show you step by step how to use the handy tool.
How to use the Windows 11 installation wizard
The Windows 11 Installation Wizard is an officially released program from Microsoft that allows you to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 directly – even if it is not yet offered via the Windows 10 update function. Unfortunately, the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 cannot be circumvented in this way. Even though no data should be lost during the process, backing up important data before the upgrade is recommended.
Download the Windows 11 installation wizard.
- Start the downloaded file Windows11InstallationAssistant.exe with a double click. Confirm the security prompt of the user account control with Yes. Your user account must have administrator rights for this.
-
Wait a moment for the installation wizard to check whether your PC meets the minimum requirements for Windows 11. If this is the case, click on the Accept and Install button to agree to the licence terms.
- The installation wizard will now download all the necessary files. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, this may take a while. However, you can continue to use the PC without any problems.
- In the next step, the wizard checks the downloaded files and starts the installation. You can continue to use your PC during this step.
- After the progress bar reaches 100 per cent, you will be prompted to restart the PC. Click on the Restart Now button. Otherwise, an automatic restart will take place after 30 minutes. Please note that at this point the upgrade to Windows 11 is not yet complete.
- The PC will now continue with the upgrade to Windows 11 on its own. This usually requires several automatic reboots. The process may take some time and even if it temporarily looks as if the installation will stop, you should under no circumstances switch off or reset the PC.
