USB 3.0 cables can be extended in various ways. This practical tip tells you what you need to bear in mind.
Extending USB 3.0 – what you need to know
USB 3.0 cables can be a maximum of 3 metres long. However, you can extend them.
- For this purpose, there are either normal extension cables or also USB hub extensions.
- An extension cable has a plug on one side and a socket on the other side, to which a plug can be connected.
- A USB hub extension is similar, but has not only one USB socket on the opposite side from the plug, but several. This means that not only one device can be connected there, but you can plug in several cables at once.
- If you buy an extension, make sure that it supports USB 3.0. You can tell by the blue colour of the connector. If you buy an extension cable with USB 2.0, for example, the transfer speed will suffer.
