How to switch off the iPhone torch - Practical Tips

How to switch off the iPhone torch

by Pramith

The torch function on the iPhone is extremely practical when you are looking for the keyhole in the dark, for example. The torch can be switched off in the same way as it is switched on. But there is another way. We show you how.

Turn the torch on and off on the iPhone

If you want to turn the torch on and off from the iPhone, you can use the Control Centre to do so.

  • Open the Control Centre by swiping down from the top right on the newer iPhone models without a physical Home button. On the other iPhones, open it by swiping from bottom to top.
  • Here you can turn on the torch by tapping on the corresponding icon.
  • Turning it off works the same as turning it on by tapping the torch icon.
  • If the torch icon is greyed out there and cannot be activated with a simple tap, but is greyed out, there is probably an app running in the background blocking this function.

iPhone: Use torch with Haptic Touch

As of iOS 13, you can also use the torch with Haptic Touch:

  • Open the Control Centre as described above
  • Press and hold the torch icon for about two seconds.
  • A menu opens that offers three different brightness levels. Select the desired level here.
  • You can switch off the torch as described above.
