Charging the iPhone 16: Here are your options

by Tobias

There are several options available for charging the battery of an iPhone 16. Apple has also improved the battery performance.

Charging the iPhone 16 – here are your options

Apple has equipped the iPhone 16 with several charging options so that you are prepared for any situation when the battery needs to be charged. In addition, iOS 18 introduces some helpful additional features for managing the charging process:

  • Wired charging: To charge your iPhone 16 with a cable, connect it to a compatible power adapter using a USB-C cable. Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are equipped with a USB 2 interface. The maximum supported power for wired charging is up to 20 watts for the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, and up to 27 watts for the Pro Max. This allows for significantly faster charging than previous models with Lightning connectors.

  • Unlike wired charging, the two wireless charging options on the iPhone 16 may be a little more convenient, but they are also significantly slower – although slow battery charging is by no means a bad thing, provided you are not in a particular hurry. MagSafe and Qi2 are available for wireless charging of the iPhone.

  • MagSafe: With the MagSafe charger, you can wirelessly charge the iPhone 16 at a maximum power of 25 watts. The MagSafe charger has a magnetic alignment that ensures the iPhone is positioned optimally on the charger.

  • Important: Older MagSafe chargers only deliver 15 watts. For 25 watts, you need a new MagSafe charger and a power adapter with at least 30 W.

  • Qi2: The second option for charging the iPhone 16 wirelessly is via Qi. The advantage of this method is that it works with many third-party chargers. However, in this case, only a maximum power of 15 watts is possible.

  • By the way: The iPhone 16 can charge other iPhones via USB-C, but does not support wireless reverse charging.

  • With the introduction of iOS 18, you also have the option of setting the charging limit in advance. The charging limit function can be found in the settings under “Battery ☻ Charging” and allows you to set a limit between 80 and 100 percent.

iPhone 16: Battery performance

Compared to previous versions, the iPhone 16 also scores with improved battery capacity:

  • iPhone 16 with approx. 3,561 mAh: Video playback: up to 22 hours Streaming: up to 18 hours Audio playback: up to 80 hours

  • iPhone 16 Plus with approx. 4,006 mAh: Video playback: up to 27 hours Streaming: up to 24 hours Audio playback: up to 100 hours

  • iPhone 16 Pro with approx. 3,577 mAh: Video playback: up to 27 hours Streaming: up to 22 hours Audio playback: up to 85 hours

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max with approx. 4,676 mAh: Video playback: up to 33 hours Streaming: up to 29 hours Audio playback: up to 105 hours

  • Important: These figures are estimates and not official data from Apple.
