If you find the autoplaying Facebook videos in your feed annoying, you can also turn off the autoplay function. We’ll show you how.
How to turn off autoplay of Facebook videos on desktop
Here is how to turn off autoplay for Facebook videos on desktop:
- Open the Facebook website: Go to Facebook.com and log in.
- Click the top-right arrow: In the top-right corner, you’ll find a small arrow pointing down by your small profile picture. Click it.
- Select Settings: In the drop-down menu, select “Settings and Privacy” and then “Settings”.
- Navigate to Videos: On the left side, you will find the section “Media” –☻ “Video Settings” and “Auto-Play Videos”. Click on it.
- Turn off autoplay: Find the “Auto-play videos” item and toggle the switch to “Off” to disable autoplay videos.
Instructions for Android users
- Open the Facebook app: Start the Facebook app on your Android device.
- Tap the menu: In the upper right corner, you will find the menu icon (three horizontal lines). Tap it.
- Scroll down: Go to “Settings and Privacy” and open “Settings”.
- Navigate to Media and Contacts: Scroll down and select “Media and Contacts”.
- Turn off autoplay: Find the “Autoplay” option and select one of the options: “For mobile data and Wi-Fi”, “For Wi-Fi only” or “Never play videos automatically”.
How to do this on iOS
- Open the Facebook app: Start the Facebook app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the menu: In the lower right corner, you will find the menu icon (three horizontal lines). Tap it.
- Select Settings: Go to “Settings” and then go to “Account Settings”.
- Navigate to Videos and Photos: Open the “Videos and Photos” section.
- Turn off autoplay: Select “Never play videos automatically” under “Autoplay” to disable autoplay completely.
- Alternatively, you can also use your iOS device’s system settings: Go to “Settings” ☻ “Facebook” and adjust the autoplay settings accordingly.
