FaceTime is a video calling app that is basically free. You can only use the tool on Apple devices. The app is already preinstalled on these. Find out here whether costs may still be incurred.
Is FaceTime free?
FaceTime is preinstalled on Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad and Mac. Using FaceTime is generally free of charge. However, you must always have an active internet connection – whether via Wi-Fi or the mobile data network.
- If you don’t have a flat rate for mobile data and exceed your limit, you may incur costs. Even if you use FaceTime abroad, you may incur costs. It’s best to check with your provider to see which contract you have.
- On the iPhone, costs may be incurred when you activate FaceTime. Before you can use the app for the first time, an SMS is sent to an international number to test the connection to the server. A maximum of 6 cents plus VAT is charged for an SMS to other EU countries.
- You can also use FaceTime on your iPad. This is possible via Wi-Fi access or by using your mobile cell phone plan.
- After activation, FaceTime accesses your contacts and allows you to call people directly via their contacts using FaceTime.
- For devices from iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), you can create a Memoji in FaceTime and use it during the call.
