Xiaomi: Change PIN – here’s how

If you want to change the PIN on your Xiaomi device, it’s easy to do so via the settings. You can adjust the number combination for both the SIM card and the screen lock.

A PIN is a combination of numbers that you can use to prevent unauthorized access to your smartphone, for example. There are two types of PINs: one is the code for your SIM card, and the other is used to lock your smartphone screen with a combination. You can change both on Xiaomi devices. To lock the screen, you have to go to the lock screen settings.

• Go to “Settings & Password” in the settings and then to “Set screen lock”. If you can’t find this tab, search for “Lock screen”, “Screen lock and password” or a similar option. The exact name differs depending on the model.

• You can decide whether you want to protect your smartphone with a PIN, a pattern or a password. Select your desired option, enter your old PIN, password or pattern, and then select a new one.

• Now you have changed the PIN for the screen lock.

Change the PIN of the SIM card: This is how it works

You can also change your SIM card PIN in the settings of your Xiaomi device.

• In the settings, you will see the option “More settings”. Go to “Privacy” and “SIM card lock” to get to “Change SIM”.

• If you can’t find the option and there are no corresponding tabs, go to “Passwords and Security” in the settings, then to “Security” and finally to “SIM PIN”. The exact names for the SIM PIN settings may also differ depending on the model.

• Then enter the old PIN for your SIM card to confirm and select a new one.

• Make sure that the SIM lock is also activated on your Xiaomi device. To do this, go to “Settings” via “Passwords and Security”, “Privacy” and “More Security Settings” to the item “SIM Lock Settings”.

• Activate the slider next to “Lock SIM card” to make your smartphone more secure and only use it with the PIN. If you can’t find this option, you can use the magnifying glass in the settings to search for “Lock SIM card” or a similar name.
