You can view the WhatsApp status of your friends or acquaintances anonymously. With the status, WhatsApp has set up a format similar to the stories on Facebook and Instagram. Shared photos and videos are visible to all contacts for 24 hours. However, the story creator can see who has viewed them – but there is a way around this. Here are the 6 best ways:
- Disable read receipts. This means that WhatsApp will no longer indicate to the sender of a message that you have read it. Even if you open the status page, your activity will not be displayed.
- However, if you want to continue to receive read receipts yourself, you can also view uploaded stories from unknown people in airplane mode, i.e. offline. Important, but cumbersome: Delete the app before going back online. Otherwise, a read receipt will be sent. You can reinstall the app again.
- You can also view the status anonymously via the WhatsApp web. Open your web browser in incognito mode and load the web version of WhatsApp. Open the status page and go offline. Now you are anonymous. However, you will only see the text and a blurred version of the uploaded photos and videos.
- As a last resort, you can use the file explorer. WhatsApp stores the shared data on your phone in the folder WhatsAppMedia.Statuses. This way you can view photos and videos anonymously.
- Conversely, you may have been blocked by others without realizing it. Fortunately, it is possible to check which contacts this applies to. Using WhatsApp correctly needs to be learned anyway, otherwise it can quickly become embarrassing if, for example, the emojis are not used correctly.
