How you can block anonymous calls on the iPhone depends on the iOS version. From iOS 13, this can be done very easily via the settings.
Block anonymous calls on the iPhone from iOS 13
Apple has now integrated the function directly into the iOS operating system. This means that the function can be easily used with the new iPhones. You can mute all callers that cannot be assigned to a known contact in the settings. You will still receive a notification in the call list. In addition, the calls are diverted to voicemail. Muting unknown callers on the iPhone is done in a few steps:
- Open your iPhone’s settings.
- Select the “Phone” submenu.
- In the last menu section, you will find the option “Mute unknown callers”. Click on the display and slide the controller to the right.
- The button will then be highlighted in green.
Block unknown calls on the iPhone with older iOS versions
If you have an older version of iOS, this won’t work via the settings. To block callers with withheld numbers, you have to use the “Do Not Disturb” function for a different purpose. This allows you to block all phone numbers that are not in your contacts. These instructions for the iPhone explain how to make changes in the settings:
- Open the “Settings”.
- Tap the “Do Not Disturb” function.
- In the menu that opens, activate the “Do not disturb” button.
- Under the “Silent” section, check the box next to “Always”.
- Then open the “Allow calls from” submenu and activate the tick behind “All contacts”.
